C & O Canal

The Chesapeake and Ohio Nation al Historic Park contains the canal that illustrates an historic, 19th-century transportation waterway with preserved locks and structures. In addition, it features a 184.5-mile dirt and stone towpath running from Georgetown, D.C. to Cumberland, MD, along the Potomac River with an outstanding habitat for mid-Atlantic flora and fauna.
